Consumer Unit Upgrade
Consumer units (or more commonly referred to as “fuse boxes”) may need to be upgraded for several reasons. The most common one is age, an old fuse box without RCD protection may not provide the safety features you need to keep your household safe.
Other reasons could include remedial works or extensions, (a lot of kitchens fitters want RCD protection before fitting a new kitchen) but mostly you will want to upgrade your consumer unit for safety reasons. We can advise you on exactly what you need for your home or any properties that you rent out.
Your own home
You will want to upgrade your consumer unit for protection against:
- Fires (if an old fuse board overheats it may catch fire)
- Electric shocks
- or just if your fuse box is full!
Consumer units for garages and outbuildings can also be installed to split the electrical system from the home.
If you are a landlord
Landlords have a legal duty to ensure that their rental property, and any electrical equipment provided, is safe before a tenancy begins and throughout its duration. This includes the consumer unit. You do need to have an RCD fitted and it should be tested every 3 months.

Electrical Fault Finding
We’ve all experienced symptoms of a problem, the lights flicker at night, you get repeated blown fuses, or even burning smells. All of these symptoms may suggest that there is an underlying issue that needs to be resolved.
There are many reasons that things just do not work as they should, including general wear and tear or user damage, so if you have any electrical niggles please do not hesitate to call us.
The three most common issues we see:
1. Tripping issues
Some electrical systems may start to deteriorate due to age and usage, which in turn can cause nuisance tripping on circuits in your consumer unit. Some cabling may also slowly deteriorate after prolonged usage causing the cable to break, leading to a loss of power.
2. Electrical accessories
With accessories like a light switch or socket front, some issues may occur where the outlet is not working but nothing has tripped in the consumer unit. There are a number of reasons this could happen. We will advise you if the outlet may just require replacing or if something else is going on to cause the fault.
3. Damage to electrical systems
Electrical systems can be damaged in a number of ways and this damage could be accidental or may have occurred when other non-electrical works are being carried out (e.g a nail nipping into a cable). We will rectify this damage for you and get your system quickly up and running again.

Electrical Testing
Make sure you have electrical testing covered!
The periodic electrical testing of installations and appliances are an essential aspect of safety in all domestic situations, in fact, they have become a legal requirement for landlords who are renting out their properties. Getting testing done by a qualified professional is essential as electrical testing highlights potential safety issues with current installations or uncovers dangerous problems that need to be fixed immediately.
Electrical Installation Condition Report or “EICR”
An EICR is not a legal requirement, but every property should have a current one. Most insurance companies require a current EICR to ensure your property is electrically safe. Ideally, you should have one every 5 years to ensure your installation meets the current electrical regulations.
We can carry out an EICR to identify the current state of your electrical system. Our report will highlight any failings and make recommendations for remedial works required. If you want us to complete the electrical works as well you will find we are very competitive.
Landlord Certificate
All Landlords have a legal duty to ensure the electrical installation and all the electrical equipment in a rented property are safe and conform to all current electrical standards. This includes light fittings, sockets and any fixed electrical fitting.
We provide a comprehensive testing service to cover all the legal requirements of the Landlords Certificate, including a report on issues and remedial work which must be completed.
PAT Testing (Portable Equipment Testing)
PAT Testing certification is required by landlords in rental properties (and by companies whose offices have portable appliances in them.) Portable appliances cover things like fridges, washing machines, photocopiers PC’s, kettles – basically anything that can be plugged into a power outlet.
We provide a comprehensive PAT Electrical testing service to cover all the legal requirements.

Electric Vehicle Charging
The Future of Driving is Electric!
The benefits of driving electric cars are clear, and with exciting new technologies being developed, cutting charge times to minutes, extending travel range significantly and further enhancing safety and automation features, there has never been a netter time to switch.

Fast, easy home charging.
Charging your electric vehicle at home is cost efficient, simple and fast and a compact, all-weather home charging unit can be just outside your home or workplace. Remember, an Electric car charging point needs to be professionally installed:
- The installation process involves wall mounting the charge point to an exterior wall or garage, near to where you park and connecting it safely to the mains electricity supply.
- The duration of the installation will depend on the individual requirements of the driver and the complexity of the installation.
- Installations can be booked by contacting us via our online enquiry form (at the bottom of this page) or contacting our office via telephone or email. Our electricians would be happy to provide advice and talk through the options.
- Our friendly and experienced electricians can carry out a free survey and produce a no-obligation quote for your installation.
Prepare for your install
- You will need to ensure that the area around the distribution board/electricity supply meter is clear including the cable run route – specifically in small spaces such as understaffs and in and around garages.
- You will also need to have your Wi-Fi password ready so your installer is able to connect your charge point to the internet.
We are approved Installers of
- OZEV Scheme
- My Energy approved
- POD Point approved
- ICS approved

Home Rewiring & Other Projects
If your home is a few decades old, or you want to put an extension on your property, then your house could benefit from house rewiring.
Older properties do not conform to today’s security standards and extensions can put a strain on the existing electrical supply. It could be that you just need a partial rewiring service or a completely new installation. Whatever your project we have the experience to help you discover what is best for your situation to keep your home safe both now and in the future.
House rewiring
Aside from the age of the property, there are some other telltale signs that your home needs rewiring. These include:
- Frequent tripping of safety switches
- Appliances overheating
- Power fluctuations
- Growing demand for more sockets (reliance on extension cables)
It is worth checking with an electrician if you notice any of these things happening. It may not be necessary for entire house rewiring, it could just be a fault!
Many people just want to know the cost of house rewiring before we can survey the property. Unfortunately, there is no “one size” quote that we can give you, for the time or money that it is going to be required. We would need to understand the size of the job before we can give you this information, including the size of the house and what is already installed.
Part rewiring
Sometimes damage occurs to just a portion of your electrical circuit when this occurs then a simple part rewire to “fix the broken bit” is required. Damage can occur by water damage, or even small, furry creatures nibbling away at the cable PVC coating. Typically these incidents occur in a local area so we can isolate it and rewire without affecting the rest of the house.
Got a problem in one area of your home? Get in touch with our team to get it sorted!
Other Projects
Other projects typically are new installations, perhaps you are building a new single dwelling or a complete housing development? We have an experienced team that works effectively with other trades, off drawings and can assist with any queries that require dealing with. Our team is also experienced in helping to design an electrical system that will suit whatever is required.

Lighting Upgrade
You may require a lighting upgrade for one of a number of reasons. The most common we see include where there is an inadequate light output for the space involved or the wrong kind of light is being used which makes the area too dark and therefore dangerous.
Other reasons may include the complete renovation of a property or an extension, or just that you want to have some element of control over the lighting with all the new technology that is now available. Whatever your reason, we can help you decide what lighting option is best for you and your home.
Garden & Outdoor lighting
With garden and outdoor lighting there are a number of different systems available as well as choices on the areas outside your property that you can choose to have lit up. We aim to provide the best advice on lighting options for your property and even design the systems to suit your needs.
